Two large three gallon Westerwald open salt glazed stoneware jars.
Decorated with elaborate bird and leaping horse decorations, they'd make great collectors items.
The ovoid shaped jars with loop handles are decorated on the front and back with Ritzdekor and a cobalt design of a large bird with flowers and a leaping horse.
Ritzdekor means scratched or etched, in this case in still soft stoneware before baking and salt glazing. This way of decorating characterises Westerwald pottery.
