Scientific school or laboratory convex shaped lens on a brass stand with cast iron tripod base.
The heavy convex glass lens is 7 1/2 cm (2.95") thick and has a diameter of 12cm (4.72").
The rod connecting the base with the lens is made of brass and 37cm (14.57") high, it is not adjustable in height.
The tripod base is made of very heavy strong and secure cast iron to hold the top weight, being the thick convex lens. The iron has visible aged patina and surface rust.
A convex lens, also called a converging or positive lens, is thicker in the middle. The light rays that pass through a convex lens converge or are brought closer together they refract light inward toward a focal point. Light rays passing through the edges of a convex lens are bent most, whereas light passing through the lens's center remain straight.
