Clover or quartreform shaped mid-19th century Chinese canton export tea caddy in gold lacquered wood on a black background.
Decorated with palace scenes animated with figures engaged in various pursuits within walled gardens.
Interior with pewter compartment.
The hinged lid is decorated in relief in the Shippo or Shippou pattern.
(A several overlapped circles shape that stands for the meaning of "happy ending")
Inside the hinged lid is decorated with waterfront reeds plant decoration.
The tea caddy is raised on four lacquered and gilt carved imperial guardian lions, lion dogs or foo dogs also known as Shishi.
