Very pretty and styled Art Deco ceramic German shepherd dog sculpture in white crackled glaze.
Charles Louis Eugène Virion (1865-1946) was a noted French animal sculptor and ceramicist.
After the First World War, he made memorials for French municipalities and made a public statue called "Mother's love" depicting a dog and puppy, it is exhibited in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The clean geometric design of this pose makes it very special.
Beautifully crackled glaze and hallmarked on the base by the sculptor.
Virion studied sculpture in Paris under Jean-Paul Aubé and Charles Gauthier and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1886 until the 1930s.
