In 1919, Mario Buccellati opened his first enterprise and, after the establishment of stores in Milan, Rome and Florence, began the development of his overseas business by opening a new store on Fifth Avenue in New York in 1954 and another in Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, Florida in 1958.

In 1965, after the death of Mario, the management of the firm was conducted by four of his five sons.

The four brothers Luca, Lorenzo, Federico and Gianmaria worked together, they moved the Milan shop to via Monte Napoleone in 1967 and in 1969 they split up.

Luca became head of the New York office
Lorenzo led the original company Mario Buccellati
Federico launched his own brand Federico Buccellati
Gianmaria also launched his own brand Gianmaria Buccellati
Giorgio, the youngest, became a renowned archaeologist in the United States

In 2011, after 40 years of competition, two branches of the Buccellati family returned together. The Buccellati Holding Italia company was created from the merger between Mario Buccellati and Gianmaria Buccellati.
