A rare amazing heavy (25+ kilos) handmade German Neurenberg war ammunition or treasure chest on wheels from the first half of the 19th century.
Rectangular strongbox of sheet iron with cast and wrought iron reinforced edges and hinges.
Without lock.
This antique strong box is clearly used, weathered and sturdy, this makes it quite exquisite indeed. I cannot find a makers marks on this little beauty.
Chests like these were made to hold valuables such as gold, coins, ammunition, jewels or maps. This was the precursor to the modern day safe.
It is in beautiful, original, unrestored condition with a grand patina.
