Set of six beautiful 19th century Victorian bath soap, foam or beauty oil bottles.
Two bottles depict up-side-down ladies on a ball in their underwear and with loose hanging hair, frosted on a clear bottle, on both you can read 'depose'.
A smaller heavy bottle on which three fishes or dolphins appear with their tails up, in the base there is a large pontil and some cracks in the thick and heavy glass.
A large bottle looks like an up-side-down ice cream cone with three scoops, 'depose' on one of the 'scoops', on the base was probably room for a label.
The two hand shaped bottles have beautiful details like cuffed and buttoned sleeves from which the hands appear, holding an elegant shaped bottle, both have frosted hands.
The bottles are marked: DEPOSE (depose in French means registered). T
hese bottles are attributed to the art glass company Le Gras et Cie. that was started by the artist François-Théodore Legras. They made bottles in all kinds of themes, shapes, and subjects.
All bottles are blown by hand as they clearly show irregular thickness of glass, little air bubbles and they all have a pontil. On all bottles you see 'seams', this is because from mid-19th century glass technology had progressed enough to allow manufactures to make use of moulds. This simplified the process of bottle making, instead of making each part by hand, the mould allowed a worker to simply insert a hollow pipe with a glob of molten glass into the mould and literally inject the glass against the mould. The seams are up to the neck of the bottles but not completely to the top, this places them in 1880-1900 period of time.
