Very decorative couple of hunting dogs in lying position made out of very detailed solid cast brass. Because of the solidness they are quite heavy an easily could work as bookends or paperweights. I think Golden Retrievers are depicted here, but please correct me if I'm wrong.
Originally part of a 19th century fireplace fender now they are the cutest brass dog statues I ever saw.
A fender was a decorative element placed in front of a fireplace that kept logs from rolling onto the floor. The dogs were probably on a brass base (holes can be seen in the bottom of the base). The two bases would be connected by a long adjustable horizontal rod.
The dogs are made in one piece (cast) except for the curly tails, those are mounted with a screw.
They would make a great addition to any office desk or would look great left and right on a fireplace mantel.
