Charming hand-carved mid-sized wooden Folk Art dowry chest from the Black Forest area of Switzerland, made around the turn of the century.
It features a beautifully hand-carved floral and vine Acanthus motif and has 'claw-like' feet.
Two side handles for easier transport and to complete the chest it has (worn) appliques of hand-stitched needlework panels.
This would be a beautiful decorative eye-catcher in a hallway or living room to store a blanket in.
measurements include handles and clawfeet.
The outside: DxWxH 54x47x64 cm (21.26x18.5x25.2 inch).
The inside of the box without lid measures: DxWxH 50x37x28 cm (19.7x14.6x11 inch).
Note: The wool embroidery panel has 'worn' spots and one of the hind claw-feet misses a toe.
